U.S. Capitol in lockdown after reports of gunshots

The U.S. Capitol and White House went into lockdown on Monday afternoon after witnesses reported hearing gunshots and Capitol Police told those inside to shelter in place.


The Huffington Post's Jennifer Bendery reported that the shooter was caught and that one police officer was shot, though not seriously injured.



Cathryn Leff, a therapist who was at the Visitor's Center on Monday, tweeted that she heard gunshots as she was going through security. "It was a scramble," she said, adding that she evacuated after hiding behind a wall. Read more...
